The Ophicleide is the historic predecessor of the Tuba. Although visually similar to a saxophone, it belongs to the family of brass instruments and is played with a baritone mouthpiece. There are many compositions which require the ophicleide, but today those are mostly played by tubas. This, however, undermines the beautiful and unique sound of this historic instrument. This is why since a few years ago, efforts are made to re-introduce this instrument to the modern music world. With our newly built special edition ophicleide, this now becomes possible for any tuba and trombone players.
